Today is World Mental Health Day, a very important day for us here at Third Kind Games. It’s a day all about raising awareness of mental health and driving positive change for everyone’s mental health. As a company, mental health has always been an area of focus for us as we know how important it is to get it right for our team, and the mental health of each and every person at TKG matters.
What is World Mental Health Day?
It’s an annual awareness day around the world, aimed at bringing our mental health to the forefront, and promoting mental well-being! It’s a day for us all to come together and discuss what we can do to help ourselves, one another, reducing stigma around discussing our mental health and advocate for better support systems.
TKG’s mental health journey
As mental health and support is something we value highly in TKG, we’ve had support in place since the beginning of TKG and it’s still evolving today!
Early on in our journey, the Mindful Corner was born. The Mindful Corner is our Slack channel and safe space full of resources, presentations and advice on how to get help or manage our own mental health which has been incredibly useful for many of us.
We also have the Employee Assistant Programme (EAP), which is a 24/7 helpline for the entire studio to use where we can get financial advice, mental health support and even be put in touch with professionals. It’s fully confidential and completely free for us all to use, so we can feel safe in getting the support we need.
To compliment our EAP, the Aviva Mental Health pathway offers private medical treatment for mental health conditions, alongside allowing our team to be assessed for mental health conditions. It’s fully confidental and forms part of our private healthcare benefit.
As a studio, we support our team to take part in mental health awareness training and first aid training every year, which is valued just as highly as first aid and fire safety training in the studio.
For the second year running we dedicated the month of May as an awareness month for mental health, with several of our team coming forward with inspiring talks focused around mental health and the theme of ‘safe space’.
Going the extra mile
We're proud to share that this year we're taking part in Mind Charity’s Workplace Wellbeing Index! Mind is the UK’s leading mental health charity, and every year their wellbeing index looks at what an organisation does for their employees mental health, and assesses what they do well and what they can improve on. The assessments gives both the company and our team a chance to give their thoughts on TKG’s mental health support too.
