Happy International Women's Day!

It’s International Women’s Day! The annual global day marked on 8th March celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It’s also a day that calls for action to accelerate women’s equality.

Each year has a different theme, with 2024 focusing on #InspireInclusion. When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world. You can read more about what inspiring inclusion means here.

Latest statistics from the games industry show that female representation in the world of game development still has a way to go, with GDC’s State of the Games Industry 2024 report showing that 23% of respondents identified as women.

At Third Kind Games we celebrate the women in our work and home lives all year round, but especially in the games industry we do feel it’s important to mark International Women’s Day. This year we’re celebrating the women in our team by gifting them a tree via Treedom, the first platform in the world that allows you to plant a tree from a distance and follow the story of the project online.

Without further ado, here’s how we’re celebrating the amazing women of TKG, the industry and everywhere else today!

BOBA TEA TIME

We’re taking some time out of our day in the studio to get together and relax over a cup of tea or bubble tea.

WEARING PURPLE

We’re encouraging our team to proudly wear purple, one of the colours associated with International Women’s Day. This colour symbolises justice, dignity, and loyalty to the cause. By wearing purple, we join hands with women worldwide, standing together and celebrating their remarkable achievements.

BANANA, CACAO AND COFFEE TREES

At Third Kind Games, we believe in celebrating International Women's Day in a meaningful way. While the mimosa flower is a beautiful symbol (the tradition of giving Mimosa flowers on Women's Day began in the early 20th century and continues to this day), we wanted to do something more impactful and long-lasting to show our appreciation for our female colleagues. That's why we decided to gift each one of them with a real tree through Treedom. This initiative not only helps create sustainable ecosystems but also supports farmers in planting new trees, ensuring food autonomy and income opportunities for them.
