Senior Unreal Programmer

Role Overview

As a Senior Unreal Programmer you will have a desire to focus and specialise your technical skills further, working with our teams to reach your next career step as a Principal or Lead.
You will engage fully with our engineering processes, participate in code reviews, and support the team in building scalable, maintainable, and performant systems.

Required Skills and Experience

Technical Ability 
  • Expert-Level Proficiency: Strong knowledge of C++ (and C#) with the ability to quickly identify and address gaps in understanding. 
  • Engine Knowledge: Deep understanding of game engine mechanics, particularly in Unreal. Ability to identify performance bottlenecks and expensive operations. 
  • Problem Diagnosis: Skill in diagnosing technical issues from observed symptoms, using logical reasoning to implement appropriate solutions. 
  • Adaptability: Capable of quickly integrating into unfamiliar areas and contributing effectively. 
  • Cross-Platform Reasoning: Understanding of how design decisions impact various platforms beyond just PC. 
  • System Design: Proficient in designing and implementing large-scale systems (e.g., asynchronous resource loading, streaming solutions, custom animation systems). 

Creative Technical Ability 
  • Ownership: Take full ownership of the development process, leading innovative solutions to technical challenges. 

Leadership and People Skills 
  • Collaboration: Recognize when to engage with other teams (Design, Art, External) and encourage collaborative problem-solving. 
  • Mentorship: Guide others towards solutions rather than simply providing answers; actively involve team members in debugging and troubleshooting processes. 
  • Roadblock Removal: Assist in identifying and eliminating obstacles during the design and planning stages. 
  • Adaptability and Problem Solving: Display high adaptability and effective problem-solving skills in varying situations. 
  • Communication Skills: Possess excellent written and verbal communication abilities for effective cross-department collaboration. 
  • Support Role: Be prepared to step in and support during the absence of Lead Programmers. 
  • Interview Support: Assist in the recruitment process by evaluating potential candidates. 
  • Mentorship Role: Act as a mentor to junior team members, providing guidance and support.
